$30 billion Strategic Projects Plan launched

Aimed at steering the country towards economic recovery and sustained long-term growth, Bahrain has in 2021 announced the launch of 22 new projects.  The plan includes the construction of five new cities on man-made islands which will increase Bahrain’s land area by 60%; “Tourist City” – a series of resorts in the southwest of Bahrain; and the largest “Conference City” in the Middle East – part of the new Bahrain International Exhibition and Convention Centre; “King Hamad Causeway” four lanes, 25km in length parallel to the existing Bahrain-Saudi link; and “Sports City” – home to the country’s largest football stadium and indoor sports arena.

Bahrain Government announces new housing plans

As part of the Government Action Plan (GAP), the Bahraini government has announced the planning and construction of social and affordable housing to benefit Bahraini citizens. The current plans include: Salman City (740 hectares, northwestern coast of Bahrain, built on ten islands it will house ca. 15,600 families);  the East Sitra Town Project which is currently under construction conists of 3,000 residential units in total and is the first project carried out in collaboration with China; East Hidd, under the Ministry of Housing, is funded by the Kuwait Fund for Arabic Economic Development (KFAED).

Bahrain's NECC reaches benchmark point

The build of Bahrain's New Exhibition and Convention Centre has reached a critical completion point. With the construction of the halls now structrually complete, the developers are optimistic to hit their constructiond deadline of Q4 2022. Once finished, the new exhibition venue will be the largest if its kind in the Middle East boasting a total floor area of 149,000 sqm.
